Registration for Bootcamp Coming Soon!

The New Commissioner Bootcamp is an intensive program designed to help newly elected county commissioners build a strong foundation for serving their communities. The program begins with Ethics, Public Records and Sunshine Law, a legislatively required courses for all local elected officials*, and provides an essential orientation to county government, FAC’s role in the legislative process, and the highlights tools, resources and support available to commissioners through the Association.  The Bootcamp also provides a valuable opportunity to connect with a C2C Mentor in person and meet fellow new commissioners from around the state. New commissioners are encouraged to participate in the Legislative Conference Closing Breakfast, where they will be recognized and welcomed by the FAC membership.

*Commissioners elected in November 2026 are not required to complete ethics training until 2027 but are encouraged to attend as part of the New Commissioner Bootcamp.*

December 2026 Bootcamp Agenda

  • DECEMBER 1 

    ETHICS, PUBLIC RECORDS & SUNSHINE LAW: This course covers ethics expectations, Florida’s Sunshine and Public Records Laws, reporting requirements, and handling ethics complaints. 

  • DECEMBER 2 & 3

    COUNTY GOVERNMENT & ASSOCIATION OVERVIEW:

    Over the course of through this interactive bootcamp, new commissioners will:

    • Meet their C2C Mentors
    • Receive a comprehensive overview of County Government, County Budgeting, Financial Management, Communications Strategies & more!
    • Hear from experienced local official on the lessons they’ve learned since taking office
    • Learn about the Association, FAC Policy Process and how to access tools and resources

  • DECEMBER 4

    FAC LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE CLOSING BREAKFAST: All new commissioner bootcamp attendees should plan on attending the Closing Breakfast. New commissioners will be recognized at the breakfast, and this provides the first opportunity for them to participate in the FAC policy process, and the full membership will vote on the 2027 Legislative Action Plan, which will guide the Association’s advocacy efforts throughout the 2027 Legislative Session.

What is a C2C Mentor?

A C2C (Commissioner to Commissioner) Mentor is an experienced county commissioner who serves as a trusted resource and sounding board for a newly elected commissioner. Through regular communication, shared experiences and connections at FAC events, mentors help new commissioners navigate the complexities of county government, build confidence, understand the legislative process and connect with FAC’s resources and broader network. The goal is not to have all the answers, but to listen, share honestly and walk alongside a new commissioner as they find their footing in their first year of service.
